Placement, care and maintenance of flowline infusion apparatus

Springfusor instructions

  1. Select a syringe and springfusor suitable for the drug and volume to be delivered and fill the syringe with the desired amout of infusion solution
  2. Select the flow control tubing (fct) to deliver the fluid at the rate you desire (e.g. 10mls in 5 mins, 10mls in 30 mins etc)
  3. Connect the female end of the fct to the syringe ensuring the cap remains in place on the male end
  4. Load the syringe into the springfusor pump by pushing the syringe plunger up against the spring until the syringe can be turned by 90 degrees and locked into place
  5. Remove the cap from the male end of the fct and ensure it is ready for use by waiting for a drop of solution to appear (if you wish you may attach a 3 way tap to the male end to allow the administration of medication without the need to disconnect the system from the patient)
  6. Connect the male end of the fct to the patient via an appropriate iv catheter (if you wish you may piggyback this system with other fluid delivery systems)
  7. When the infusion is complete you may remove the springfusor and syringe and cap the female end of the fct which may then be left attached to the patient for further use if required

Balloon infusor instructions

  1. Select your infusor and calculate a dosage rate for the infusion (please note the balloon infusor requires a volume of between 15 and 40ml for initial loading. If you wish to give a smaller or larger volume you will need to use the flowline springfusor system)
  2. Select the control tubing to deliver fluid at the desired rate (please note; only the 5min, 10min, 30min, 60min, and 2hour control tubing are suitable for use with the balloon system)
  3. Connect the female end of the control tubing to the balloon ensuring the male end is still securely capped
  4. Fill the balloon infusor with the desired amount of infusion solution
  5. Remove the cap from the male end of the fct and ensure it is ready for use by waiting for a drop of solution to appear (if you wish you may attach a 3 way tap to the male end to allow administration of medication without the need to disconnect the system from the patient)
  6. Connect the male end of the fct to the patient via an appropriate iv catheter (if you wish you can piggyack his system ith other fluid delivery systems)
  7. Once the infusion is complete you may remove the balloon and cap the female end of the control tubing which may be left attached to the patient for future use if required or you may refill the system for continuous infusion
